Benidorm, July 3, 2025 – The Benidorm City Council has presented the results of the project Smart Telecare Benidorm. Internet of People, an innovative technological solution developed by IoTsens that enables non-invasive monitoring of elderly and vulnerable individuals through artificial intelligence and big data.

During the event, Mayor Toni Pérez highlighted the social value of the project, which monitored water and electricity consumption in 52 homes over a five-month period. This allowed for early detection of abnormal behavior and activation of social care protocols. A total of 485 real-time alerts were generated, 133 of which were due to consumption pattern deviations. These triggered 20 social interventions, with an average detection time of under 45 minutes.

Toni Pérez stated that this application is “one of the clearest and best examples of how to bring technology down to earth and put it at the service of people,” especially in a way that is “non-intrusive and does not interfere with daily life, yet provides extremely valuable information, particularly in the case of elderly people who live alone and can feel reassured knowing that any sign of trouble will be detected and responded to quickly.”

Román Almela, Business Manager at IoTsens, and Adrián Adell, software developer, emphasized the potential of this technology to improve the well-being of vulnerable groups, optimize municipal resources, and scale the model to other municipalities.

The initiative has been supported by the Benidorm City Council, the Valencian Innovation Agency (AVI), Hidraqua, and the Valencian Institute of Artificial Intelligence Research at the Polytechnic University of Valencia. It is worth noting that the project was recently recognized at the Digital Tourist Congress with the award for “Social, Environmental, and Economic Tourism Sustainability”, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The City Council plans to expand the implementation of this system (Smart Telecare Benidorm) in the coming years, further consolidating Benidorm’s status as a leading city in applying technology with social impact.
