The Smart Cities World magazine publishes the project carried out between IoTsens Smart Water and its client Facsa for the deployment of 20,000 water meters with LoRaWAN communication in different areas of Castellón de la Plana. The areas that cover the deployment of said meters correspond to the area of Pau Lledó with extension to Rafalafena, Pau Sensal and the UJI area.

Facsa is a company that belongs to the Gimeno Group and is in charge of the control and tracking of water in more than 70 cities, where it provides services to more than four million citizens. With 145 years of experience, it has become the Spanish private company with more experience in the management of the integral water cycle.

The “Smart Water” solution from IoTsens provides the city of Castellón with relevant and valuable information for the daily management and optimization of its resources. Along with this, the integration of the main brands of meter manufacturers has provided the solution with high interoperability and versatiliy.

“The LoRa-based sensors used in the IoTsens Smart water metering solution collects and communicates important household data to accurately track and control water metering” said Vivek Mohan, Director of IoT for the Wireless and Sensing Products Group at Semtech.

This project has been based on the connection of the different meters to the platform through the LoRaWAN technology, thanks to the development of a server of said communication, operated entirely by IoTsens. In this way, it was possible to integrate and implement a first proof of concept with 600 smart water meters, paving the way for the current full deployment of Facsa consisting of 20,000 water meters connected to the IP67 outdoorLoRa Gateway of our partner MultiTech.

Thanks to the work in the development of communication, the integration of meter manufacturers and the IoTsens SMART Water solution, it is possible to reduce infrastructure investment and operating costs in those areas of action.
